This monster plant is trying to take over. What if we let it?

I think of Kinda doing zones that has the Hybrid and the native, 95% or a bit more of native and a Hybrid zone where both species cannot cross due to the ground either being not its type or maybe another species that can be like huge walls of defense, tho I think they would need to test in a small area in a controlled area before testing it in the actual area

When are humans going to learn that bringing in invasive species NEVER works out? You'd think we'd know, being THE most invasive species in history. They mention a monoculture of species, which is exactly what humans are doing. We're spreading so much and forcing other species to extinction, EXACTLY like an invasive species does. In time, nature will adapt to many invasive species and the ecosystem shifts, some species live, others die. But humans spread so quickly that nature can't keep up. Instead of an ecosystem adapting and shifting, it's at risk of collapsing all together, which in the long term would spell death for the humans that depend on that ecosystem.

Oh no the atmosphere's changing! Oh no it's getting hotter! Oh no everything is freezing! This is bad! This is bad! This is bad! And if they had hypothetically succeeded, we wouldn't exist.

It keeps the land healthy and regenerate... we have our ecosystem naturally because of those plants.. good for raising animals like goat, cow, carabao and other plant eating animals.. it will not kill animals believe me instead it will increase the animals.. esp the birds migrating.. and it will also invite beetles, insects, grasshoppers, butterfly and bees to balance.. mother nature knows what to do to your dying land..

I don't understand Mark Davis's argument here. While nature does change, it tends to increase in diversity on its own, and rarely changes into a mono-culture. But that's something that human interference causes over and over, as invasive species often have an unfair advantage in throwing off the preexisting balance of a system. That seems like a really clear distinction, and there are dozens of examples of devastating effects of species introduction throughout history.

This story reminds me of the cane frog imported into australia to eat the bugs attacking the sugar cane crop. Sadly , the bugs eating sugar cane were high above the frogs, so these frogs ran from the designated food source to find food they could actually reach. In term of future projects, this grass looks really useful for stabilizing mud flats. Why not let the spartica grass advance over the mud flat , and eradicate it on the reclaimed land behind it? The piper will follow the new growth as the old growth is burned behind them. At this stage the invasive species is a monster, but it is not airborne. (yet?) I mean do you have to consider this stuff as a threat to take over the entire west coast, like the cane frog did to eastern australia? There are pictures of cane frogs lodged in the mouths of snakes with their last meal poisoning them to death.
